Man Ignites Self In Apparent Central Park Suicide
May 10, 2003, 3:43 PM EDT
A man in his 20s committed suicide by setting himself afire at the north end
of Central Park Saturday afternoon, police said.
A passerby saw the unidentified man pouring a can of gasoline or another
flammable liquid on himself around 1 p.m. at 109th Street and West Drive, police
said. The passersby ran to summon a parks department employee, but the man
ignited himself before help could arrive and he died of his injuries on the
spot.
A suicide note was found in the man's pocket.
